The First Generation: William and Elizabeth Dawson

William Dawson was born in England in 1605. He emigrated to Virginia in 1635, and soon after married Elizabeth Proctor. The couple settled in Surry County, Virginia, where they raised a family of nine children.

William Dawson was a devout Christian, and he was soon drawn to the Baptist faith. In 1642, he was baptized by Thomas Helwys, one of the founders of the Baptist movement in England. Dawson became a leading figure in the Baptist community in Virginia, and he helped to establish several Baptist churches in the colony.

Elizabeth Dawson was a strong supporter of her husband's ministry. She was a gifted speaker, and she often preached at Baptist gatherings. Elizabeth Dawson was also a skilled writer, and she wrote several tracts and hymns that were widely circulated among Baptists in Virginia.

The Second Generation: John and Sarah Dawson

John Dawson, the eldest son of William and Elizabeth Dawson, was born in 1636. He followed in his father's footsteps and became a Baptist minister. John Dawson served as pastor of several Baptist churches in Virginia, and he was a leading figure in the Baptist movement in the colony.

Sarah Dawson, the wife of John Dawson, was a devout Christian and a strong supporter of her husband's ministry. She was a gifted singer, and she often led the singing at Baptist gatherings.
