The Birth of an Icon

Brooklyn's origins can be traced back to the Lenape Native Americans, who inhabited the area for centuries before European settlers arrived. In 1636, the Dutch established a trading post known as Breuckelen, named after the city of Breukelen in the Netherlands. The settlement grew slowly and remained primarily rural until the early 19th century.

The Ferry and the Bridge

These transportation links connected the borough to Manhattan, making it a more desirable place to live and work. As a result, Brooklyn's population exploded, and the area began to develop rapidly.

These elegant and spacious homes were built in the mid- to late-19th century by wealthy families who were seeking a more luxurious lifestyle. Today, brownstone neighborhoods such as Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, and Boerum Hill are some of the most sought-after in the city.
